MISS FOUNTAIN CITY TO SPEAK AT CHARACTER RECOGNITION LUNCHEON
In 2007, she started a non-profit foundation, Open My Eyes, to help launch "grassroots" projects that focus on character development. Her foundation has helped financially launch six grassroots projects that promote character development in children. "Look At Me, I Am Just Like You" is a book, authored by Miss Hardin and released in 2009, that teaches children to be sensitive to those who are different. Growing up with a port wine birthmark, Abigail knew firsthand what it was like to be seen as different. Teachers and school counselors use the story to instill self-worth and address bullying, isolation and depression among our youngest citizens. Abigail has read her book and led discussions with more than 6,000 children nationally, and has been a keynote speaker for gatherings of educators, counselors, politicians and university students. Last year she was awarded the national Patient of Courage Award, for those who have had reconstructive surgery and now give back to society. She was also named Social Entrepreneur of the Year for the State of Alabama, and received the Capstone Hero Award, and NBC's "13 Make a Difference Award". |

The Fountain Behind The TitleLong before Prattville became "The Preferred Community," it was known as "The Fountain City" because of its numerous artesian wells. Many of these wells were capped or ceased to flow when efforts were made to move them. However, many wells still produce gallons of sweet, free-flowing clear water daily. So, come enjoy a drink of water and sit a spell under the tin-roofed well shed on Doster Road, sip from a dipper at the well in the back yard of the Prattaugan Museum/Heritage Center, slake your thirst at Heritage Park overlooking Autauga Creek, or at any of the other public artesian wells. |
Miss Fountain City, Abigail Hardin, will take part in the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition's luncheon on May 11. Miss Hardin, a native of Clinton, Mississippi and a junior at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, was selected to represent Prattville in the Miss Alabama Scholarship Program in June of this year.
